Audiobook The Four Agreements

According to Ruiz, everything we do is based on agreements we have made – agreements with ourselves, with other people, with God, with life. But the most important agreements are those that we encounter ourselves. In these agreements, we tell ourselves who we are, how we should behave, what is possible, what is impossible. A single agreement is not such a problem, but we have many agreements that come from fear, deplete our energy and reduce our self-esteem. I have been on the path of spiritual awakening for 25 years and I wish I had come across this book at the beginning of my journey! Now it`s a perfect summary of what I`ve discovered myself over the years, wrapped up in a beautiful mystical story, the Tolèque way of contemplating it. I do not recommend this book enough to anyone who is looking for a way to lead a happy life, to be free from the fog of limiting beliefs and other effects of our domestication. The four agreements are simple, but difficult enough to be respected at any time in our lives, hence the importance of the fourth agreement. I will keep this book at the top of my list of favorite books for a long time to come and definitely re-read it to make it even more wise. Each of us is born with a certain amount of personal strength that we rebuild every day after our tranquility. Unfortunately, we give up all our personal power first to establish all these agreements and then respect these agreements. Our personal strength is dispersed by all the agreements we have put in place, and the result is that we feel powerless. We have just enough power to survive every day, because most of them are used to abide by the agreements that keep us prisoners of the planet`s dream. How can we change the whole dream of our lives if we don`t have the power to change any agreement? The four agreements are provided in a way that is easy to understand and applicable to everyday life. The concept of life in a dream is also easy to assimilate. The only concerns I had were the last 11 minutes when he gives a “Christian” prayer that sounds totally contradictory to the Tolèque wisdom given in the rest of the book. This end made me doubt the credibility of the authors. I recommend listening until prayer, then stop and you will be satisfied with the wisdom of the Toltec tradition.

A single agreement is not a problem of this kind, but we have many agreements that make us suffer, that make us fail in life. If you want to live a life of joy and fulfillment, you must find the courage to break agreements based on fear and that claim your personal power. Agreements that come out of fear require us to spend a lot of energy, but agreements that come from love help us save energy and even produce extra energy. Although the content and agreements of the 21St Century useful and relevant, I had the impression that there were many very religious and overly spiritual elements in the stories. Don Miguel Ruiz`s famous guide to personal freedom is an inspiring and motivating read. But actor Peter Coyote`s muted voice takes these old Toltec doctrines to another level and turns them into a captivating four-part guided meditation. The Four Agreements sets up philosophical concepts in concrete, real situations and studies the benefits of being blameless with one`s word, not taking anything personally, not making assumptions, and always doing one`s best. . . .
